Grant Consulting and Grant Writing

Grants are a major priority for many visual artists, but the application process can be difficult to navigate alone. Virginia Broersma provides support through strategy meetings, grant writing assistance, and workshops designed to help artists strengthen every aspect of their applications.

She has worked with artists who have gone on to receive prestigious awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, and brings firsthand insight into what makes an application stand out. Through individualized guidance, she helps artists clarify their ideas, improve their writing, present their work more effectively, and develop stronger, more compelling grant applications.

How I work:

For artists I have not worked with previously, I recommend beginning with a one-hour Zoom meeting to discuss your goals and develop a strategic plan. This initial meeting allows me to gain an understanding of your practice, your project, and the direction of your written materials, while also providing insight into the grant application process itself.

From there, we can continue working together throughout the application process, including developing strategies for the application, refining written materials, and strengthening the overall presentation of your work.

If you choose to engage my writing services, we can exchange and revise documents following our meeting.

Many artists continue to use the texts developed through our consultations for future applications, making these meetings a cost-effective way to strengthen their writing over the long term. The consultation process is also an efficient way for me to become familiar with your work and tailor guidance to your specific goals.

Pricing:

Proofreading: $50/hour (This is for nearly complete texts that just need to be reviewed, corrected, and have minor changes made)
Drafting/Editing Texts: $100/hour (Working with rough and/or unfinished copy to strengthen and refine the whole text)
One-Hour meeting: $150. (Meetings can be for reviewing a text or application, working on it together in real time, strategizing, and exploring options for strengthening an artist's applications)
