Just the money: a new subscription for artist grant deadlines

I am pleased to announce a new Artist Grant Deadline Subscription for Visual Artists. Just the Money will notify artists about upcoming grant deadlines with additional reminders as the deadline approaches.

Subscribers will receive:

  • An email notification with information about the opportunity one month in advance of the deadline

  • a reminder email closer to the deadline

  • a final reminder the day before the deadline

This is essentially a nudge service so that artists don’t miss important grant deadlines.

This subscription is only $20 for all of 2020. Regardless of when you subscribe, it is $20 through the end of the year.

While there may be some variability depending on the artist’s practice, annual subscribers will be notified of at least 20 grant opportunities over a one year subscription from $500 micro-grants to prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, Artadia Award and CCF Fellowship. These grant opportunities are all administered through open call/juried processes.

UPDATE: So far in the 1st Quarter of 2020 I have sent out over 15 grant opportunities.

These grants are all readily found through a google search and the many websites that offer resource pages for artists. The service I am offering is to remind you of them as the deadline is approaching so you don’t have to try and track all the deadlines throughout each year.

Each email distills the information about the application process and the granting organization so artists can quickly assess whether or not they will want to apply.

Subscription FAQs:

Q: What is the “Just the Money” Subscription?
A: The Subscription is a service which notifies subscribers about upcoming deadlines for artist grants and monetary awards for visual artists. Read a full description on at the Services & Pricing page.

Q: How many deadlines will I receive?
A: Los Angeles County based artists will receive a minimum of 12 grant opportunities over the course of one year. I have over 40 unique grant and monetary award opportunities on my list, some that have multiple cycles per year but some artists may not be eligible for every award.

Q: Will I be eligible for every grant?
A: Artists are responsible for reading the guidelines to understand if they are eligible as the Artist’s Office will not make this determination. There may be grants that artists don’t (yet) qualify for based on age, stage of career, but are important opportunities to keep on the radar.

Q: How is Visual Artist defined?
A: Most grants define Visual Artists as working within the following categories: painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, film and video, interdisciplinary/mixed media, performance art and social practice.

Q: I am a student - may I subscribe?
A: Many artist grants are not available to students, but students are welcome to become subscribers to learn about opportunities.

Q: Is this subscription available for artists outside of Los Angeles?
A: Not yet, but plans to expand it nationally are in the works. Join the mailing list to be notified once it’s launched.

Q: Which grants are included in the subscription service?
A: Artists will be notified of opportunities ranging from micro-grants of $500 to prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, Artadia Award and the CCF Fellowship. Artists should be aware that the subscription is not meant to be a comprehensive service, but will provide artists with a minimum of 12 grant deadline opportunities to pursue in support of their art career/practice during the year.
