I am pleased to be working with Maiden LA to offer a free pitch workshop for those who would like to participate in the upcoming LA County-wide survey and get some feedback on their idea for a "happening" before submitting to the Open Call.

Maiden LA Pitch Workshop

Wednesday July 1, 2020
10:30am - 12pm

Maiden LA is an inclusive and expansive county-wide survey of art happenings that in encouraging the use of alternative spaces, considers the city as a platform for generative discourse and exchange.

This is an excellent opportunity to host a panel discussion, organize a collective action, hold an open studio, plan a socially-distanced picnic, create space for underrepresented artists or try something new. Maiden LA is 100% inclusive and gives participating artists total autonomy. Through this, Maiden LA provides a rare forum where an unrepresented artist working out of their garage is on the same plane as an established institution.

Maiden LA is happening this September 1-20 and the Submission Deadline is July 15. Late applications will be accepted through July 30 for $15, and edits to your original submission will be charged a $5 edit fee so you will want to ensure that your submission is fully formed with all the details worked out prior to submittal.

Space for this workshop is limited so that all participants can get feedback on their pitch - please sign up early if you'd like to participate, and thanks to those who have already signed up!

All my best,
Virginia

Pitch Workshop Details:
Wednesday July 1, 10:15am - 12pm

The Artist’s Office and Maiden LA are offering a pitch workshop for those interested in participating in Maiden LA and want feedback on their idea before submitting their “happening”.

This is designed for anyone who is developing a project/event that would like to tap into the collective knowledge bank of members of the art community. Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their idea to the group and receive feedback from the other attendees about their idea and how to make it successful.

Each participant should plan to pitch an idea and to offer their feedback on the other participants pitches.

This workshop is free, however registration is required.

Please note that projects must take place in Los Angeles County.

What is a Pitch Workshop?

This pitch workshop is a time for people to pitch their ideas to a group who will then respond with their feedback. This could include: their impressions about the idea, feedback on the title, suggestions of how to make the concept stronger, how to get the word out, how to make the event a success, offer resources that that might be needed or recommendations of where to find help. The responses and knowledge sharing will be dependent on the attendees of the workshop. Each person pitching their idea can request what type of help or feedback they are looking for.

Things to identify before attending the workshop:

  • What kind of happening (event / project / exhibition / performance / activity / workshop / panel discussion) would you like to offer during Maiden LA?

  • Who is your audience and what do you hope to accomplish/gain/offer through this happening?

  • What are your concerns?

  • What resources do you need?

Who is this for?

Anyone who has an idea for Maiden LA - whether it is in the very beginning, seed stages or is a more fully developed concept - who would like to bounce their idea off of other people from the art community before submitting to Maiden LA.
