Artist Statement Clinic

Artist Statements are one of the most common tools artists use to help others gain insight into their work. They are often a requirement for various opportunities for artists, and can also be useful for gaining confidence in articulating what you make and why you make it. For many artists, their statement is an incredibly difficult piece of text to wrangle.

I am pleased to offer an upcoming Artist Statement Clinic:

Workshop Details:

ARTIST STATEMENT CLINIC

Wednesday September 9, 15-7:30pm
With LUCTA-LA

In this clinic, artists will learn about what makes an effective artist statement including methods of communicating ideas and describing artwork. The bulk of the workshop will then be spent workshopping each participant’s existing statement through group assessment and discussion. Like a writer’s workshop or a crit group, each artist will present their existing statement and receive comments and constructive feedback from the group, and offer the same for the other artists. This process is designed to grow each artist’s ability to find language that fits their own voice for talking about their work, both in the written word and in conversation.

The workshop is limited to 8 participants to allow for in-depth conversation around each statement.

Requirements:

Each registered artist will need to submit their existing artist statement between 250 - 300 words  2 days prior to the workshop.

Due to the nature of the workshop, all registrants are expected to commit to being present for the entire 2.5 hour workshop.

Who is this for?

Artists with an existing artist statement that they want to improve and that want to become more confident in articulating their ideas and the various aspects of their work.

This workshop is being presented in partnership with LUCTA-LA. Let Us Consult The Arts (LUCTA-LA) was formed in late March 2020 by a small but passionate team with diverse talents, to meet the learning and community needs of students and professional artists all over the world. In a time of social distancing, LUCTA-LA has striven to distill the quality of instruction and sense of community of a traditional art learning environment into an exceptional online experience.
