The Artist CV: Not just where you've been, but where you need to go

Shortly after the stay at home orders had been issued, I was impressed to see a local artist and educator friend of mine quickly adapting to the situation and creating a way to keep teaching while schools are closed. Along with a small and nimble team, she co-founded a new virtual school called LUCTA-LA (Let Us Consult The Arts) and I am thrilled to be offering a workshop through LUCTA on June 4.

The Artist CV

Thursday June 4
10:30am - 12pm
$15

This workshop will first offer a nuts-and-bolts overview about building and maintaining a professional artist CV. But what I am most excited to offer is a way of thinking about your CV - as a tool or a roadmap - and as something that can help you plan actionable steps for progressing your art practice / career.

Artist can use their CV as a tool for self-assessment and identifying next steps in terms of their professional goals. We'll be discussing this within an expansive understanding of what an artists career or practice can look like, and the varied forms that success can take.

Class size is limited so we can engage with this topic together to make it more personalized for attendees. Details for the workshop are below and I hope to see you there.

All my best,
Virginia

THE ARTIST CV:
Not just where you've been, but where you need to go.

Thursday June 4, 10:30am - 12pm

This single session virtual workshop is designed to turn maintaining an Artist CV from a burdensome task into a tool for professional growth. Artists will receive information about how to create resumes while following professional standards. After this nuts and bolts overview, artists will be shown how they can use Artist CVs and resumes to gather information and to guide their next steps in moving towards their personal and professional goals in terms of their art practice.

Artists will learn:

  • What information is included on a CV.

  • How to layout and organize the information according to professional standards.

  • Who looks at a CV and what it is used for (why artists should have one on their website and keep it up to date).

  • How to look at other artists’ CVs and glean important information.

And then...

  • How to use your own CV as an assessment tool

  • How to strategize about next steps to take to move towards professional goals

Who is this for?

Artists at any level who are interested in pursuing a professional art practice.
